School administrators will make servers based on *NIX systems and generally experts on open technologies. Education and certification of students will be held in accordance with the requirements of the labor market of Information Technology (IT). The initiator of the School of GNU/Linux and open source technology is the public organization “Center for Information and Communication Technologies” Dushanbe.
Now Tajik youth can gain knowledge and skills in Linux and Open Source without leaving the country to work in IT companies around the world.
Open technologies – this is a good alternative to expensive paid software programs. Currently, many computer users do not know they’re using pirated versions of paid programs. And with the entry of Tajikistan to the WTO attention to the issue of compliance with the Law “On Copyright and Related Rights” may increase. However, the transition to the widespread use of open technologies in the institutions of the country is fairly slow. First of all, this is due to the lack of qualified professionals who are able to ensure an effective transition to the use of these technologies.
Admission of students to the School will begin in November of this year. There will be selected more than 80 people with the basic knowledge of IT and open source technology. Within six months, the School pupils will learn to work with the operating system GNU/Linux, administrate *NIX systems, configure network services GNU/Linux, as well as be trained in programming based on open technologies. Education will be held under the guidance of certified specialist at international level for the Linux Professional Institute program. Within the project there will also be held open lectures at Universities in Tajikistan.
Over several years the Department of International Organizations of “Open Society Institute” – Assistance Foundation in Tajikistan supports all initiatives for the development and promotion of open source technology in the country. The start of Professional School of GNU/Linux and open source technologies is implemented with the financial support of the organization. Assistance in the implementation of the project has also provided the private sector. “TAKOM” LLC donated to the Centre of ICT server equipment for practical and laboratory classes in the School.
